Climate change will have an outsized impact on development, but it is far from the only challenge countries are facing in the long-term. A wide range of changes can be foreseen including population increase, economic and cultural shifts, rapid technology innovations, and alterations in natural systems, resulting in changes across all sectors and fields. These changes together will shift the way economies develop and change how World Bank supports countries to ensure sustained low-carbon economic growth and macroeconomic stability while accounting for climate change risks. Actions to address climate change also present strategic opportunities for better development, long-term sustainable, and inclusive growth. These actions will almost certainly be affected by the health and economic impacts of COVID-19.

This virtual session aims to elevate the dialogue on country needs and challenges regarding design and implementation of decarbonization strategies. It will bring together country representatives from different regions to share experiences. It will also highlight how the World Bank can support countries in meeting long-term goals of decarbonization as put forward in the World Bank Outlook 2050.
