Transforming High-Integrity, Inclusive Voluntary Carbon Markets

Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCMs) are poised to grow exponentially as companies set net zero commitments. This brings opportunities for increasing finance for climate change mitigation on one hand, and risks of greenwashing, social and environmental harms on the other. VCMI is calling on public, private, and civil society actors to work together to ensure that use of VCMs accelerates climate ambition alongside inclusive, sustainable development.
VCMI will convene representatives from government, private sector and civil society to address one central question: “How can Voluntary Carbon Market finance drive low carbon transformation in emerging economies?” By unpacking different perspectives on this question, the discussion will build momentum for cross-sector collaboration and identify practical action to:
1. Integrate the role of carbon finance in broader low carbon and sustainable investment
2. Share knowledge and build capacity
3. Build alignment between emerging guidance, standards and tools for high integrity VCMs
4. Bridge VCMs with evolving regulatory regimes, including Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
