Climate Risk Management: Data analytics and investing in Paris Agreement-aligned projects

Climate data analytics and associated risk management solutions are emerging as powerful tools with vast potential to assist with several areas critical for scaling up investment in adaptation, resilience, and climate-aligned opportunities including (i) overall risk management, (ii) identifying opportunities to invest in climate-related adaptation, and net-zero, resilient investments, such as those related to National Determined Contribution (NDC) implementation, and (iii) the potential for catalyzing and mobilizing private capital for climate-aligned development. While an emerging industry, climate data analytic providers are making advances in integrating climate science, economics, and big data analytics, and enabling information about financial risks resulting from expected climate physical and transition risks. Their tools offer actionable, project, asset-, and portfolio-level climate risk data and analytical capabilities. Their success -- and the need to scale their use -- is an essential component of climate risk management for countries, governments (both national and sub-national), companies, investors, policymakers, and the non-profit sector.
This event aims to show how climate risk management practices can leverage data analytics on adaptation and resilience. It will showcase how climate risk managers in governments, corporates and financial institutions can apply these tools in the interest of achieving viable climate-aligned strategies and commercial solutions. Key questions this workshop will cover:
- How are data analytics spurring innovation in climate risk management, adaptation, and net-zero investment approaches?
- How can analytics technology support better climate-related financial risk management and the identification of climate-aligned opportunities?
- What role can data analytics play in supporting NDC implementation, and specifically helping infrastructure projects align with climate-resilient, net-zero goals?
